Replace Doorknobs and Door Handles

Replacing an old, worn doorknob is a great way to update the appearance of your home, and the safety level as well. It doesn’t take very long to do. A simple screw driver is the only fancy tool you will need. You can find new, decorative doorknobs at home improvement stores.

Refinish Kitchen Cabinets/Cupboards and Replace Handles/Knobs

You can do an inexpensive remodel in your kitchen just by refinishing your cabinets instead of buying new ones. Add a fresh coat of paint to the cabinet bases, and replace the doors and the hardware for a whole new look. You will modernize your entire kitchen without spending a lot of money.

Refinish Wood Furniture Yourself (Instead of Buying New Furniture)

Do you feel like throwing out that old bedroom dresser? You can rejuvenate old furniture by simply sanding and refinishing it. Refinishing your furniture will save you the money you would have used to buy new furniture. It is a great way to get a new look in your home and save a ton of money. Old furniture can be stained or painted in a number of different colors.

Cover Air Conditioners Outside with Plants

An air conditioning unit is not one of the most attractive appliances. In certain areas, though, air conditioning is an absolute necessity. It is easy to cover the unit with a trellis or bamboo stand. Try planting a cluster of tall flowers or grasses a foot in front of the unit.

Put Paneling on Your Walls

If you want to try a cheap and quick way to change the look of a room, try paneling. The benefit of this alteration is that the panels can easily be removed with little damage if the look that they create is not to your liking. You will have lost little in terms of time or expense either way.

Prior to installing paneling, paint stripes on the old wall. Regardless of the care you take when installing paneling, the old wall can sometimes be seen showing through the paneling. To help camouflage this effect and keep this from being distracting, measure out where each panel will meet before your installation. Use a color that will match the paneling and paint the areas where the paneling will meet.

Paint Your Garage Door

You can make your home more appealing by painting your garage door. Garage doors are subject to rain and snow year round, so it’s no surprise that they lose their luster quite quickly. A house with a brand new paint coat looks even more valuable and pristine. Choose a new color that blends in better with the palette of your house instead of sticking with the original, standard shade.

One of the most common reasons that people shy away from making home improvements is that there’s a lot of work involved. If you are new to the process of home improvement, it can seem completely overwhelming. But it does not have to be difficult to get started in your home improvement projects.
